Presentation on the History of the Canonization of Saints

The following presentation was given as part of a 2015 adult education series offered at St. Thomas Parish, Peoria Heights, IL.

The purpose of this presentation is to examine the devotion to the saints as it evolved in the Catholic Church from the first Century to today. The history of the canonization of saints spans the time of the early martyrs and early confessors, the role of councils, the rise of papal canonizations, the creation of the Sacred Congregation of Rites, and finally the current Congregation of the Causes of Saints.
